It’s never too late to Tackle your Pet’s New Year’s Resolutions
As pet-parents we’re full of hopes and dreams as the New Year approaches, thinking about participating in more park walks & talks, to new diets for our pets. The struggle though is all too real when January hits, and our New Year’s Resolutions become a thing of the past by the end of the first week.
With the month of March in full swing, however, let’s get back on track and commit to giving our four-legged babies what they need, and more importantly - the best year yet!
Have a look at some creative yet practical ideas to do just that:

CAT AND DOG GAMES
It’s never too late to teach your young, adult or senior pet a new trick or two. Get their tails wagging and brains working with the incredible Lucky Dog Slots, Triple Treater Totter, Treat Chaser and Treat Twister dog toys for your clever canine OR a Treat Spinner for your inquisitive feline.
INVEST IN PREMIUM, HEALTHY, AGE-APPROPRIATE PET FOOD
We are what we eat, therefore providing our pets with QUALITY food is a must! YES, it’s expensive - but one bag of premium pet food lasts longer and can actually be more cost effective in the long-run. Owners have noticed a difference in as little as 4 weeks after letting their pets feast on top-notch brands.
These top quality diets are highly digestible and nutrient dense, which means that our pets eat less because their tummies are full for longer. And I’m not even joking - premium diets spoil you with less poop to scoop.
Have a look at ePETstore’s delectable range of premium diets for dogs and cats. Bear in mind that Eukanuba and Royal Canin kibbles help to reduce tartar build-up (keeping those pearly whites bright and gorgeous) and is complete with high-quality proteins, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.
PET QUALITY TIME
Life happens and work can drain the last bit of energy from our souls, but that doesn't mean our pets should suffer through our bad moods. Spend some quality time with them and rekindle your friendship and that precious bond you share.
Take 10 - 15 minutes after work to take them for a walk, or to play a game of tug and fetch outside. Exercise keeps both parties healthy, happy and probably shakes off some unwanted flab too.
Bad weather? Make quality time inside time with some hugs, kisses, cuddles and games. Pop out your Feather Wand to entertain your feline with, or some Plush Dog Toys for your dog to rip into, without damaging the furniture in the process.
If their energy is fading, pop on the couch and binge watch some shows you haven’t gotten to, and do it together. After all it’s a well-known fact that owning, petting and loving an animal lowers blood pressure, depression, stress and anxiety, improves your mood and even decreases your risk of a heart attack and stroke. So QUALITY TIME with your pet is NEVER a bad idea.
GIVE THEM A COLGATE SMILE - WITHOUT THE COLGATE
Have a look at ePETstore’s dog & cat oral care range and add a daily dental brush to your list of chores. Eliminating tartar prevents dental disease, bad breath and protects their overall health. Wave goodbye to dragon breath and go on one less guilt-trip when your vet asks you about their teeth!
If however you’re not into brushing puppy teeth or kitty fangs - take them for annual dental check-ups at your trusted vet to ensure they do get the dental love they so deserve.
FIX BEHAVIOURAL ISSUES
Always wanted to stop the unnecessary chewing, barking, scratching and marking of territory - even when it’s not even theirs? Why not have your puppy / dog attend an obedience class, or join ePETstore’s “Ask the Behaviourist” on Facebook every couple of weeks for some guidance on their dodgy behaviour. Don’t let their lack of etiquette be the talk of the town.
A BUCKETLIST FOR SENIOR / SICK PETS
If you have a sick or senior pet, make a list of things you know they’ll LOVE. Be it a new toy, outfit, blanket, treat or bed, we owe our pets BIG TIME, and what better way to show your gratitude than with something special.
Pet-friendly parks, restaurants and hikes are all exciting activities to add to your to-do list. Perhaps you’ll meet like-minded people and/or pets to brighten up your year. We can never have enough friends, and neither can they.

BE PREPARED AND SAVE YOURSELF FROM FINANCIAL HEARTACHE
Try to save on vet expenses by being prepared for the unexpected. Regular trips to the vet would be #1, but of course you know that. Keep their vaccination booklets up to date (of course ALL pets need to be vaccinated against RABIES by law), and invest in getting them microchipped. Why not consider investing in some fabulous pet insurance?
No idea where to start looking for quotes? Here’s a list of reputable Pet Insurance Companies.
All too often our pets are left to their own devices when playing outside. Our stunning South Africa is however no stranger to poisonous plants. Make sure that this year you’ve taken the time to educate yourself about funky flora. Have a look at ePETstore’s article 18 Common Plants that are Poisonous to Pets and weed them out of your lives.
VOLUNTEER / DONATE. YOUR PET MAY HAVE EVERYTHING THEY NEED - OTHER PETS MIGHT NOT
If you feel like you’ve ticked off all your to-do’s with regards to your pet, why not focus some energy in helping those in need?
Donating money, food, toys, blankets or even your time to pets who don’t have forever homes yet is a STUNNING thing to do!
Ask at your local shelters who needs an extra helping hand and leave your paw print in the hearts of many and help end pet homelessness. Your pet will be SUPER proud of you - promise.
Get cracking! 2018 only has 9 months left!
