February 20th is known as Love Your Pet Day. It’s like Valentine’s Day – but you know – it’s only, just and solely for our four-legged beauties.

Even though this special day only occurs once a year, it is very important to make the MOST of it. Because let’s just get real – our beyond amazing pets listen to our less than average singing in the shower, above average dramatisations of daily events, our ever so boring moaning about our mundane Mondays and of course tolerate our mediocre personalities on those slothful Saturdays – so my point is – who would we even be if we didn’t give a little back? The injustice would be unreal.

Peary Perry agrees, as he once said “you can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats [animals]” … sooooo the pressure is on. Be the person your pet thinks you are and DO use our delightful tips to help secure your place in your pet’s heart this INTERNATIONAL LOVE YOUR PET DAY.

❤ FOOD

Oh my word – yes! Showing your love in the form of delectable DOG and CAT treats is never a bad idea. My baby bear simply cannot get enough of those succulent SHEBA cans and I’m not even joking. She gulps them up like there’s no tomorrow and I definetely recommend these cans of opulence.

If you’re not a fan of buying their love though, then why not try your hand at making some of these mouth-watering PET DIY treats with love. It’s easy, tried and tested by the ePETstore team, boasts happy tummy reviews and is great for bonding in the kitchen and on the couch later too. And of course, these treats are not rocket science to make, bake or create – so do attempt these on a free afternoon.

Stuffing a KONG toy with peanut butter (xylitol and sugar-free of course) is also the ultimate spoil for our devoted dogs to indulge in. Just remember to overall stay away from human food like alcohol, bones, coffee, macadamia nuts, seeds (from fruit) and yeast dough when filling those dog-dreams-delight.

❤ PLAY

With the new year in full swing, I think some of us might have been slacking in the quality time department. Why not use FEBRUARY 20TH as the reason to book a playdate with your forever fabulous fur-child? Cuddles, tickles, jokes and what not are all great avenues to venture down (with the occasional risk of that terrific-tummy-tickle resulting in that STOP-NOW-BITE – but it’ll still be toats worth it).

Invest in some DOG and CAT interactive toys, if yours have seen better days OR simply roll some socks around the living room floor (especially if you’re still suffering from the financial aftermath of the festive season)

For cats, can you ever truly go wrong with CATNIP infused toys? I think not.

And for dogs, well … I think sacrificing your sanity for an afternoon of SQUEAKY delight is definitely welcomed on INTERNATIONAL LOVE YOUR PET DAY.

❤ SOCIAL MEDIA

If you’re all about that click-click like-like, then you simply MUST snap-snap and share-share away. Let your pets pose in unique corners and spots in and around the house and make a day of it OR shall I say – make a LOVE YOUR PET DAY of it (I just couldn’t resist). February 20th is after all about appreciating our pets, so having social media appreciate them too is just a stupendous idea.

❤ WALKS AND SPECIAL TRIPS

February is also the last month of summer – yes yes yes TEARS! So DO enjoy a day out and about (responsibly) and let your pets stretch those legs, have the wind blow through their fur and enjoy that summer breeze. A quick drive around the block is usually thoroughly adored too, so just go for it.

Head off to a park you know OR simply head off on an adventure (if not, why not right?). Our dogs go cray-cray over new sights and smells – so a special trip to a fresh, unexplored and dog-friendly location (i.e. beach, lagoon, hiking trail and what not) is the ultimate treat really.

SIDE NOTE – just make sure they’re safe, comfortable and indeed happy once you’ve arrived, because new environments can indeed be intimidating (and I’m just throwing it out there).

❤ PAMPER, SHAMPOO, WASH AND BRUSH

MOST pets go absolutely nuts over a massage session. Why not pop those fur-bods onto the bed and as you binge watch your favourite series together, just stroke, hug and love them (I adore giving the gift of the occasional tickle, it drives my cat mad in the best possible way).

SIDE NOTE – according to PetMD, pet massages increase blood flow and lymphatic circulation in pets, relieves stress, aids muscles and boosts their immune system too. Did your jaw just drop as well? I know, it’s amazing.

If they’re a bit too dirty for the bed and a full on bath seems just too daunting, invest in some pet perfect WATERLESS SHAMPOO and/or spectacular GROOMING WIPES as a speedy solution. If you have loads of energy, giving your dog a bath is fantastic for bonding and cooling them off in the immense February heat too.

And then the brushing – if your dog is relatively easy to groom at home, just go for it. IF NOT however – book them into your local and trusted grooming parlour for a fabulous clean and pamper sesh.

You can try giving kitty a brush, some will tolerate it and others won’t. Luckily with cats we always know where we stand. Make sure you have the right TOOLS though, because if your cat is long haired, then regular brushing should be part of your routine anyway. EEEEK.

❤ CONCLUSION

I try to make every day a February 20th, because my fur-child demands attention and I clearly raised a diva.

But all jokes aside, being a pet-parent is about more than feeding them and popping them in the car for those annual trips to the vet. It’s about loving them and making them feel like the kings and queens that they really really really are.
