How It Works
Drontal uses three active ingredients to target different types of worms. Praziquantel paralyses tapeworms so they detach from the intestinal wall and are naturally digested. Pyrantel pamoate stops roundworms and hookworms from being able to latch onto the digestive tract. Febantel works against whipworms by disrupting how they process glucose, eliminating them within 24 to 72 hours.
Broad Protection
Effective against tapeworm, roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and giardia which covers the most common intestinal parasites dogs pick up.
Easy Dosing
Pork-flavoured and bone-shaped, this tablet is designed to be easy to dose, whether given directly or mixed into a meal. It can be given with or without food.
Deworming Schedule
Adult dogs should be dewormed every 3 to 6 months as routine prevention. Dogs in higher-risk environments (for whipworms or tapeworms) may need treatment every 6 to 8 weeks - speak to your vet for the right schedule for your dog.
Vet Tip: Some hookworm species found in dogs can be transmitted to humans. Regular deworming every 3 months with a reputable product helps prevent this becoming a household issue.
Important Safety Information
Not for use in puppies under 3 weeks old or weighing less than approximately 0.9 kg. Drontal Plus should not be given to pregnant dogs, as it may cause fetal abnormalities or abortion - speak to your vet about safe alternatives for pregnant or lactating dogs. Mild, temporary side effects such as salivation, vomiting, diarrhoea, or reduced appetite are possible but uncommon.

What is Hookworm
Hookworm is a parasitic worm which inhabits the intestines of dogs and cats. It has hook-like mouth-parts with which it attaches itself to the wall of the gut, puncturing blood vessels and feeding on the blood.
Symptoms of a Hookworm Infestation
- Diarrhoea
- Bloody Diarrhoea
- Weight Loss
- Anaemia
What is Tapeworm
Tapeworm is a parasitic flatworm, the adult of which lives in the intestines. It has a long ribbon-like body with many segments that can become independent, and a small head bearing hooks and suckers. Dogs and cats usually get Tapeworms by swallowing a Tapeworm infected flea.
Symptoms of a Tapeworm Infestation
- Dried, white, grain-like segments visible in faeces
- Biting, licking or dragging of hind quarters/bottom
What is Roundworm
Roundworm is a round-bodied, unsegmented worm that hatches and live in the intestines. The eggs of the roundworm usually enter the body through contaminated water or food.
Symptoms of a Roundworm Infestation
- Swollen belly
- Weakness
- Dull coat
- Vomiting
What is Whipworm
Whipworm looks like a whip with wider ‘handles’ at the end. They live in the caecum and large intestine of dogs and cats where they cause severe irritation to the lining of those organs. It is generally transmitted by ingesting contaminated food, water or faeces.
Symptoms of Whipworm
- Bloody Diarrhoea
- Faecal incontinence
- Weight loss
- Malnutrition
What is Giardia
Giardia is a single-celled parasite that lives in the small intestine of your dog or cat. Before pooing, they become encased within hard shells called cysts, which allows them to survive outside the intestines for months. Once inside your dog or cat, the cysts dissolve and the parasites are released.
Symptoms of Giardia
Dehydration
Upset stomach or nausea
Abdominal discomfort
Flatulence
